Sustainability concerns are a strategic issue for organizations across all sectors. In the last few years, organizations across the globe have made significant shifts in their operational strategies to balance the requirements for economic development, environmental quality, and social justice.

In this course, student consultants from Arizona State University will work with your organization to assess existing sustainability performance, support the development of practices, products, and/or strategies to improve financial, social and environmental performance of your product or organization.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

The final project deliverables will be agreed upon by educator and partnering organization but could include:

  • A 10-page maximum report that includes: Executive Summary; an Analysis of the business problem/opportunity; compiling best practices; clear, actionable recommendations that include action and resource plans.
  • A power-point presentation highlighting the key findings and recommendations

Project Examples

Requirements

Small teams will consult with your organization on sustainability-focused goal(s), and provide you with recommendations and/or support for your program. Depending on your company needs and priorities, the broad goals of the project might include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Improving the environmental and/or social performance of products, services or processes;
  • Designing, implementing or improving sustainability strategies;
  • Outlining an adoption/implementation strategy for sustainability tools, metrics or standards;
  • Building a business case for adoption of a sustainability strategy;
  • Assessing procurement categories for improvements regarding sustainability.
