business analytics data analysisThe ONLINE MS-Business Analytics is an online 16-month program in the business school and ranked #6 in Online Business Programs by US News. Students gain experience in advanced descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive data analysis methods while using the most current tools, packages, and platforms for data analysis.
Teams of 3-4 students work on the projects from the start of October through early December. Each project includes a kick-off session, weekly syncs with the client, a mid-term presentation, a final presentation, a final report, and other associated deliverables as required (if you would like additional meetings, please note them in your project submission).
We have worked on over 150 applied projects with approximately 50 companies over the last 5 years. There is no sponsorship fee, we sign NDAs, and the client retains ownership of IP. You can find more information here: https://wpcarey.asu.edu/corporate-relations/msba-applied-project.

Project Examples
Requirements
Since the MSBA Program focuses on advanced techniques in predictive and prescriptive analysis (including statistical, data mining, optimization, forecasting, and simulation analysis), we would consider any Project which requires students to apply these techniques to real-world data.
While students will typically end up doing some data cleaning, feature engineering, descriptive analysis, and visualization work as part of their projects, these can't be the only deliverables on the Project.
Also, unlike a CS program that would focus on algorithm performance/optimization and product development, the MSBA program focuses on the domain, methodology, modeling, interpretation of results, and connecting the results back to the Business. So while students will deliver on all the scripts required to achieve the end to end flow of the project, system building efforts (such as UI development or DW implementation) would be outside the scope of the MSBA Program.
The following timelines must be met in fall, for a spring start on applied projects. If you would like additional meetings, please add them to your project submission.
- Through September 2020: Client confirms interest in project sponsorship
- Oct 1, 2020: Client submits the first draft of project definitions completed (using template); NDA processing begins
- Oct 15, 2020: Client submits a final draft of project definitions completed; Processing of NDAs completed
- Oct 15, 2020: Client provides required data, tools and platform access to student team and advising faculty
- Oct 19, 2020: Client sets up project kick-off meeting with the student team and advising faculty
- Oct 19 - Dec 10, 2020: The client provides access to project liaisons who will be available throughout the project execution phase, to answer domain-related and data-related questions, as well as to provide required guidance to keep the project on track.
