  • Q1 - Text short
What notable qualities or skills did the student demonstrate throughout the project?
He was very hard working. Sub culturing is a very tedious task that can be luck based. He also was very good at agronomy and was able to offer insights into some of the different pathogens we encountered at our meetings. This wasn't a part of his project per-say, but it really helped us in narrowing down our search question for that pathogen.
  • Q2 - Text short
How did the student engage with stakeholders during the project?
He did. He attended our meetings, came to some of our conferences including Ag in Motion, and worked with one of our 3rd party partners to do the pathogen isolation.
  • Q3 - Text short
Did the student effectively manage their time and meet project deadlines? If so, how? If not, what areas could they improve in?
He did. He made over 200 sub cultures, and even when things were not working he kept to it and eventually managed to isolate the pathogen. Science can sometimes be frustrating but he did not let it get to him!

Ali is a wonderful hardworking student that consistently showed up to meetings early. In the lab he was always on time, was mindful of the other occupants, and was a joy to work with. He successfully completed the task, and also went beyond the project by offering us advice on how to proceed with identifying a pathogen that we were having troubles with. Mortuza will be a great addition to any lab.

Ali did amazing work. He successfully isolated Fusarium, Sclerotinia, and got a good start on Botrytis. Having these cultures will allow us to develop and validate our assays for them. He did this using a non-specific plating and sub culturing technique. He did this over 200 times to get those isolates. He also used the Pathoscan device and provided valuable feedback on its performance.
