The primary challenge is to accurately detect and identify ammonites and other fossilized materials within shale layers without disturbing the geological structure. This project aims to leverage existing geophysical techniques, such as ground-penetrating radar or seismic imaging, and adapt them for fossil detection. The goal is to create a reliable, cost-effective method that can be used in the field to improve fossil discovery rates. Students will apply their knowledge of geophysics, geology, and data analysis to design and test this innovative imaging solution.
- Understand the geological characteristics of the Bearpaw Formation.
