Details

We are looking to expand our marketing reach in order to reach a new customer demographic. The nature of our business is based in the number of ticks that are submitted to us for testing by the public and through private clinics. This makes the product that we market to be unique as people only need to purchase our services when a tick is found on them or a loved one. Part of our marketing outreach is not only about finding and expanding our target demographic but also educating people about ticks and tick-borne pathogens.

Check out https://www.geneticks.ca/about-geneticks/ to learn more about the services we offer to the public.

Together with our marketing team, we would like students to design new promotional material for this demographic. Based on our insights and additional research, students will develop promotional marketing materials for our existing media and make recommendations on alternative media to consider.

Deliverables

Tasks include:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our target market, products and services.
  • Researching the new customer demographic that we would like to reach and compiling contact data.
  • Assessing our existing marketing strategy and efforts.
  • Recommending marketing tactics to attract new customers.
  • Designing promotional material for social media pages.
  • Making multiple versions of marketing materials and testing them for comparison.
  • Recommending other demographics to consider in the future.
Mentorship

We will provide one-on-one training as needed for participating students. Training will be provided by an experienced member of our team that has worked on this project previously. We will provide participating students with access to the appropriate data sets (all sensitive and protected data will be removed prior to sharing). Any templates which have been used in the past will also be made accessible to participating students. An experienced member from our team will always be available during standard work hours (9am - 5pm) to assist with training and answer questions. Participating students are able to work outside of these hours if it suits their schedule.

Science

Geneticks is the first private lab in Canada dedicated to providing an accessible and reliable service for testing ticks for tick-borne diseases. We offer a rapid-return service, returning information about the presence of tick-borne pathogens in submitted ticks within 2-5 business days of arriving at our laboratory. This allows customers to make time-sensitive, informed decisions about their potential exposure to Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases. In addition to this, we analyze and publish essential surveillance data on the spread of ticks and tick-borne diseases in Canada as a tool to help Canadians protect themselves from tick-borne diseases like Lyme disease.
