Learner goals and capabilities

Workplace coaches are increasingly used to foster employee development. Coaching is distinct from training, in that it’s customized and focuses on the individual’s personal abilities to effect change and growth. This is a complement to workplace training, particularly for ongoing leadership development. In this project, students will develop a competency-based coaching plan for one of your team leaders/supervisory staff to help them resolve a workplace conflict situation. The student links your organization's goals with a specific outcome-based conflict resolution plan.

Requirements

Coaching creates opportunities for individuals to feel more capable when dealing with workplace conflict. Our coaching plan will enable leaders, managers, or supervisors (whether in HR or other parts of your organization) to integrate simple, outcome-based conflict resolution strategies.

Coaching plans include:

  • An assessment of the conflict situation (i.e. identifying the root cause, severity level, and potential ethical issues or cultural dimensions of the situation)
  • A short, half-hour mediation training session using our step-by-step mediation approach
  • A follow-up session to de-brief and discuss the outcome of the conflict situation (typically 15 minutes)
