Mediating Organizational Conflict - Coaching Plan
JUS470

Coaching is distinct from training, in that it’s customized and focuses on the individual’s personal abilities to effect change and growth. This is a complement to workplace training, particularly for ongoing leadership development. In this project, students will develop a competency-based coaching plan for one of your team leaders/supervisory staff to help them resolve a workplace conflict situation. The student links your organization's goals with a specific outcome-based conflict resolution plan.

Family and Human Development and Sociology Internship
FAS/SOC 494
The Sanford School Internship Program is offered to upper-division undergraduate students in Family and Human Development and Sociology. We believe that professional preparation can be enhanced through both rigorous coursework and opportunities to apply this knowledge in the field. With the provision of appropriate learning opportunities and mentorship throughout the internship, we believe that this experience will be mutually beneficial—that students will acquire needed professional skills while contributing to the important work being done by our company partners. Students get to choose their placements, and it is possible that a request for a project is approved by the educator, but no student chooses to work on that project. This is a for-credit experience, and all work will occur virtually. Students choose their own projects based on their own interests. Projects can be completed individually or in groups of up to 3 students.
Managing Team and Workgroup Diversity
OGL 552
Increasingly, workers are in close daily contact with people from different backgrounds. While this can add vibrancy and interest to the workplace culture, it can also increase friction as employees struggle to be understood across cultural divides. Organizations that take a proactive approach to create a positive, diverse workplace are more likely to benefit from the breadth of knowledge, skills, and perspectives diversity offers while mitigating some of the more negative effects that can arise as employees negotiate their differences. Students will help your organization to ensure well functioning diverse teams and workgroups through the goals outlined below.
Business and Sustainability
Ethics
Sustainability, along with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), has become a strategic issue for most businesses. It allows companies to pursue their own economic goals along with promoting environmental stewardship and maintaining goodwill with their customers, communities, and other stakeholders. The common goal of this project is to realize sustainability goals for the respective businesses. This could be done in a myriad of ways: a marketing campaign, public relations, a CSR analysis, educational materials, or anything else related to sustainability. In this project, students working in teams will apply their creativity, interdisciplinary acumen, and training in applied ethics and business ecology to meet your company’s needs.
